Adding insulation to an existing home can be difficult. There are really not many easy options unless you already are planning to remove your drywall or plaster. It would be easy to install insulation if your walls were open. One option may be blown in insulation if you do not have plans to open up their walls. You would need to put small holes in your home’s exterior to blow the insulation in. The problem with this is that you can never get 100% coverage. There are many things inside your wall that can make it difficult to add insulation.

Insulating paint may be a good alternative. There are several different kinds of insulating paint available these days. They usually work in one of two ways, either mixing an additive with your current paint or applying the thermal paint to your interior walls. You will get the best results if you use multiple coats. While you will get some insulating properties with any paint, insulating paint really will have you the best possible results.

Insulting paint will work by preventing the transfer of heat or cold through your walls. A special vacuum surface is created by tiny ceramic beads in the paint. Several products these days make claims about being developed by NASA but that claim is true when it is made about insulating paint. Insulating paints were initially developed at the Ames Research Center which is part of NASA.

There is some debate over how well insulating paint actually works. Different producers of insulating paint will give you different claims about its effectiveness. There are some insulting paint makers that say that insulation claims are only valid if a material is greater than an inch thick. While it is true that insulating paint will not be as effective as a high R value insulation it is much easier to apply to an existing home. Learn more about insulating ceramic paint.
